I used to wear old sneakers on the boat, but they were a terrible choice. Wet aluminum floors turn into an ice rink, and I slipped more than once. After one particularly close call, I decided it was time to invest in real non-slip shoes.
I ended up trying a pair of water-resistant deck shoes with rubber soles, and they’ve been a game-changer. The grip is incredible, even on a wet floor, and they dry quickly if I step in a puddle. Plus, they’re lightweight and comfortable enough for long days of fishing.
I keep that pair strictly for the boat now. Anytime I launch, they’re on my feet before I even back down the ramp. Having the right footwear might not seem like a big deal, but it makes me feel safer and way more steady on my jon boat.
