Jon boats are built as fishing, hunting and utility tools. Grab bars are also built for the needs and specifications of jon boat owners. In this article, we’ll cover the best Jon boat grab bar options. Some of the topics to be covered are mounting options, coating options, dimensions, cost, and accessories.
Things to consider when buying a jon boat grab bar
The two main jon boat grab bar mounting options are floor mount or side mount. The floor mount is for horizontal surfaces and the side mount has bracketry turned 90 degrees for mounting on vertical surfaces. The side mounting option is popular when attaching the grab bar to a console or cooler. Typically, these grab bars are mounted close enough to hold onto while using a tiller motor simultaneously.
Coating and finishes
Powder coating and anodizing are the choices for grab bar surface finishes. Anodizing is going to be the longer lasting option but also the more expensive coating as well. A powder coat still has very good durability but it has to be laid on in a thicker coat and is more likely to chip than anodized aluminum.
Dimensions
36″ is a standard grab bar height, where you may find differing dimensions in the width. Some grab bars are 12″ wide while others are 14″ wide. Most jon boat grab bars should be 14″ or wider just for more room to grip. Of course, there are custom shops that can make a grab bar any size you want.
Cost
Grab bar cost varies widely. We have found standard grab bars for about $80 and custom options up to $400. Your accessories, coating and dimensions will affect the cost. These grab bars can be fitted with electronic trays and storage tackle options and even a console.
Accessories
Because the grab bars are typically made out of round tubing there are lots of accessories that can be mounted. The most common accessory is rod holders. You will also have electronics boxes, consoles and tackle trays added to the grab bar and cushions for comfortable leaning. There are also custom design options and laser etching patterns on flat plates.
Removability
The last option is the ability to remove the grab bar, some grab bars are permanently fixed while others have a holder and locking pin system for easy removal and reinstallation.
