How I Troubleshot a Motor That Wouldn’t Start at the Ramp

Few things are more stressful than a motor that won’t start when you’re blocking the ramp. I’ve been there.

My troubleshooting checklist is simple:

  1. Check the kill switch.
  2. Make sure the fuel bulb is firm.
  3. Inspect spark plugs and wires.
  4. Look for clogged fuel lines.

Nine times out of ten, it’s something small. Now I run through this checklist before launching so I don’t hold up the line.
