How I Winterize My Outboard Engine

Before winter storage, I make sure my outboard is ready to sit. My routine is simple:

  1. Add fuel stabilizer to the tank.
  2. Run the motor to circulate treated fuel.
  3. Fog the cylinders with fogging oil.
  4. Drain and flush the lower unit.
  5. Store the motor upright.

It takes less than an hour, but it keeps my outboard from gumming up or corroding over the winter. Come spring, it fires up like I never stopped using it.
