Jon Boat Parts and Accessories

This list is meant to organize the parts and accessories for a jon boat. The links will point to different pages where we go more in depth on each list item. I use most of these items at least once a fishing trip.

List of jon boat parts and accessories

Boat trailer:

A trailer used to transport and launch the boat.

Outboard motor:

A motor that mounts on the transom of the boat and provides propulsion.

Battery:

A rechargeable battery that provides power to the boat’s electrical system.

Battery charger: A device used to recharge the boat’s battery.

Fuel tank:

A container that stores gasoline or diesel fuel for the boat’s engine.

Bilge pump:

A pump that removes water that accumulates in the boat’s bilge.

Navigation lights: Lights that are required to be displayed on a boat to indicate its position and direction of travel at night.

Anchor and anchor rope: A device used to secure the boat in place by attaching to the bottom of the waterway.

Life jackets: A personal flotation device that is worn to help keep a person afloat in the water.

Paddles:

A manual tool used to propel the boat through the water.

Oars: A longer and wider manual tool than paddles used to propel the boat through the water.

Boat cover: A cover used to protect the boat from the elements when not in use.

Rod holders:

A device used to hold fishing rods when fishing from the boat.

Fish finder:

An electronic device that uses sonar to detect fish and underwater objects.

Trolling motor:

A small electric motor used to maneuver the boat quietly and slowly through the water.

Battery box: A box that holds the boat’s battery and protects it from damage.

Bow light: A navigation light mounted on the front of the boat.

Stern light: A navigation light mounted on the rear of the boat.

Grab handles: Handles mounted on the sides of the boat used for stability or when entering/exiting the boat.

Cleats: A device used to tie ropes or lines to the boat.

Rope: A length of twisted or braided fibers used to tie the boat to a dock or anchor.

Bimini top: A canvas cover that provides shade over the boat’s seating area.

Seats: Chairs or benches used to sit on while on the boat.

Cooler: A container used to keep drinks and food cool while on the boat.

Cup holders: A device used to hold cups or bottles while on the boat.

Float pods: Float pods are rectangular-shaped pods that are mounted on the outside of a jon boat’s transom. They are used to increase the boat’s buoyancy and stability. Float pods can be added to the boat to help the boat plane faster and to increase the load capacity.

Livewell: A livewell is a tank used to keep fish alive while on the boat. The livewell is typically filled with water and has an aerator or air stone to provide oxygen to the fish. Some livewells may also have a recirculating pump to maintain the water temperature and quality.

Poling platform: A poling platform is a raised platform on the back of the boat, typically made of aluminum or fiberglass. It is used by anglers to stand on and pole the boat in shallow water while searching for fish. A poling platform can also be used as a casting deck.

Grab bar: A grab bar is a handle or rail mounted on the boat to provide a secure handhold for passengers while underway. Grab bars can be mounted in various locations on the boat, such as the bow, stern, or on the sides.

Dolly: A dolly is a small cart with wheels that is used to transport a jon boat on land. The dolly can be placed under the boat’s transom and then used to pull the boat to and from the water. Some dollies have adjustable supports to fit different boat sizes and shapes.
