I’ve had the chance to fish from both Jon boats and bass boats, and while both have their place, they fit very different styles of fishing.
The Bass Boat Dream
Bass boats are impressive — fast, sleek, with enough storage for ten tackle bags and multiple rods. If you’re into tournament fishing, it’s the standard. But along with the speed comes the price tag: expensive motors, electronics, and higher maintenance costs. Insurance is another layer.
Why I Chose a Jon Boat
My Jon boat is simple. I can fish shallow creeks, small rivers, and backwaters where bass boats can’t even get close. It’s easy to maintain, light on gas, and when something breaks, I can usually fix it myself.
Style Over Speed
For me, fishing is more about time on the water than racing to the next spot. A Jon boat matches my relaxed style and budget, while still letting me customize it with decks, lights, and rod holders.
👉 If you live for tournaments, a bass boat makes sense. If you just want affordable, accessible fishing, a Jon boat is hard to beat
